From the strange-but-true files comes a dad-invented gadget that means you no longer have to juggle your smartphone and baby’s bottle. Apparently this first-world struggle is real, and there are plenty of people throwing their cash at the controversial gadget’s Kickstarter campaign.
I am the first to put up my hand and say having my smartphone to browse while breastfeeding my children was a godsend, and meant I could stay connected with the world while feeding my babies. But if you’re bottle feeding, there are few hands-free options (the Beebo is one). So a pioneering dad has invented the Swipe & Feed, which will hold your baby’s bottle, and your smartphone.
Creator Tim Causa came up with idea when he was doing a 3am bottle feed with his newborn son Jack.
He explains, “Every night I would wake up every two hours to the sound of Jack screaming for a bottle. As soon as he started feeding, Jack would nearly fall back asleep. For 25 minutes at a time, I was in a dark, quiet room feeding my son. It dawned on me that I could do some catch-up work while he fed, but I needed something to help me hold a bottle and my smartphone. I searched online for solutions, but nothing was on the market. That’s when I decided to seize the opportunity and solve the problem myself.”
The American dad set to work creating a prototype and once he was happy with the design, enlisted an engineering firm to fine-tune the Swipe & Feed. It’s made from the same materials used to make bottles, dummies and other baby products and there are special grips and clamps to hold the bottle and phone in place securely.
It’s designed to work with any regular width bottle, and was originally designed to work with an iPhone 6, 6s and the new iPhone7 without a case, but you can contact Swipe & Feed to make sure it works with your baby’s bottles and your phone.
The Swipe & Feed is currently going gangbusters on Kickstarter, already at the halfway mark of fundraising with a couple of weeks to go. You can snap one up as part of the campaign for US$21 with delivery due in December.
